9U Hounds travel to Crystal Lake, IL over the 4th of July holiday and came home with a 5-0 record and 1st place.
This tournament started off like the last two, the Hounds playing very sloppy, lackluster that lead to a 11-4 deficit against Aurora. But the young Hounds kept working and finally pulled out a 14-11 win. Game 2 the Hounds came out hitting putting up 12 hits and 10 runs in a 8 run rule shortened game aganst Batavia.
Seated #2 in pool play the Hounds played Cary on July 5th and won in 4 innings by another game shortened but the 8 run rule.
July 6th in the 1st game the Hounds shortened the game again to 4 innings winning 12-1. This set up the Championship game against number 1 seed Lake in the Hill vs #2 seed Rockhounds. Championship game started tight and ended tight but the Hounds put 8 runs up in the middle innings to take a 8-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth. The Lighting started the 6th inning with a ball hit up the middle missed played by short & 2nd, then a walk and a single they started their come back. But after a pitching change the tying run grounded out to 3rd base on a bang-bang play at 1st base ending the game for a 7-4 Rockhounds win and 1st place.
This now runs the young dogs record to 20-10 for the season. They are 7-7 against 10U teams and 13-3 against 9U teams. Out of the 8 tourney's they have two 1st place finishes, one 2nd place and two top 4 finishes.
