The 9U Rockhounds traveled to Cincinnati for the Fathers Day weekend and finished play 2-2. Most of the team arrived in Cincy late Friday afternoon and after checking into their hotels rooms they headed over to SWOBAT for 1/2 hour of batting practice. SWOBAT is a new, very awesome baseball training facility with 9 batting cages, 4 pitiching lanes a video batting cage and a major sized field turf infield. Thunderstorms were in the area and during batting practice it was confirmed the 1st game was postponed until Saturday morning. So after the team hit against three different pitchers in three different cages for 1/2 an hour, 1/2 hour of field time was purchased for infield and a split squad game.
Saturday morning the Hounds faced off agaisn't a tough Cincy Stix team. Threating twice in the 1st the Hounds could not push any runs across. After two walks the Stix turned a double play as the runner from 2nd was stealing on a line shot that the shortstop made a nice play. But with 2 out the Hounds then loaded the bases but came up empty. That was the best offensive opportunity for the game as the team played very flat after that and ended up losing 8-0.
Game 2 the bats came alive and the Hounds cruised to a 14-2 win over the South Oakland A's, Michigan.
The third game of the day had the Hounds facing one of the tougher picthers they have faced all season. A bad inning and not enough hitting lead to a 5-3 loss and a 10th seed in the tourney.
Sunday the Hounds faced off agains't 9th seeded Downs River, MI and again the bats were alive, supported with great pitching, they again cruised to a win 14-2.
