9U Hounds finish 3rd at USSSA Nationals

08/01/08

The 9U Rockhounds finished the USSSA Nationals and the 2008 season with a 3rd place finish.  The Hounds were the #1 seed at Nationals after pool play with a 4-0 record and by allowing one fewer run to score than Puerto Rico.
In the double elimination tourney the Hounds came back from a 9-0
4th inning deficit to win 12-11 in the bottom of the 6 inning for their 1st win. They then faced Plainfield, IL and fell 10-3 for their 1st loss of the tourney and 1st loss at the Lippold Park complex having won their first 10 games played at the complex. That loss dropped them down into the losers’ bracket and another match against the Moline Blackhawks. Jumping out early and keeping the pressure on the 9U Rockhounds won this game in 4 innings 12-1. That allowed the Hounds to move on to face Lake in the Hills Black for the 3rd time this summer and this game as the other 2 games came down to the last inning with the Hounds winning 3-1. Winning that game set up a rematch against Plainfield after they lost to Puerto Rico. Just as the Hounds have had Lake in the Hills number, Plainfield has the young Hounds number as they fell 6-5 with the tying run at 3rd base.

This tournament concludes the 9U Rockhounds 2008 season with a record of 27-16. 20-6 against 9U teams and 7-10 against 10U teams.
They won two tourneys, finished 2nd once one 3rd place and two top 4 finishes.
