Fisk pitching for Grafton High School
MILWAUKEE – Conor Fisk, an alumnus of the Wisconsin RockHounds baseball club and senior on Grafton High School’s varsity team, was selected during the 34th round of the MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers on June 9th.
Baseball American Magazine projected Fisk, who recently pitched a perfect game for his team, as the top player in the draft from the state of Wisconsin.
How did this Wisconsin native land on the MLB radar? Fisk has been involved in baseball since he was four. He spent four of his formative years with the select baseball organization, the Wisconsin RockHounds. He then moved onto Grafton High School, pitching for the varsity team his freshman year.
Fisk has likely played four times as many games as many other players his age. Unlike Little League and recreational teams, the Wisconsin RockHounds is home to U9 through U14 traveling tournament teams, each of which play anywhere from 45 – 60 games per season, providing players with the opportunity to hone their skills in a competitive environment.
His skills were noticed in 2009 when he was selected to play for the Reds Midwest Scout Team Fall Scout League. The league is a collection of mostly senior players and their participation provides them with exposure in front of college and professional scouts. The teams played around the Midwest on college fields. Iowa, Illinois, University of Illinois-Chicago and Wrigley Field were just a few of the fields they played on. The fall season ended in Jupiter, Florida at the World Wood Bat Association Championships played on the Rodger Dean fields, spring training home of the Cardinals & Marlins.
The dedication and game time with the Wisconsin RockHounds paid off for Fisk. The Brewers will be watching him this summer and everyone in Wisconsin is routing for him to become our home grown player on the Milwaukee Brewers.
